•One ball per game area, extras for warm-up activities
Alternative: Size 5 footballs, playground balls
Organise into team sets of 5 bands each
Alternative: Coloured cones to designate teams, coloured wristbands
Adjust height if possible, ensure posts are stable and safe
Alternative: Netball posts, line ball markers, target areas on walls
Choose four-team or six-team format based on class size
Alternative: Whiteboard, clipboard with paper
Mark court boundaries and centre lines

A competition where teams play multiple games against different opponents
Dribbling with two hands at once, or stopping dribbling then starting again
Moving with the ball without dribbling it
Playing fairly, showing respect for opponents, and accepting results gracefully
The person who makes sure the rules are followed and makes decisions during the game
Playing basketball on half of a normal court, with teams sharing one basket
Understanding where pupils are coming from and where they're going
Communication skills, vocabulary development, team discussion and reflection
Scorekeeping, time management, tournament brackets, statistical analysis of game performance
Understanding of forces in ball movement, energy systems during exercise, biomechanics of shooting and passing
Tournament organisation systems, score tracking, video analysis of performance
Teamwork, resilience, dealing with winning and losing, respect for others, leadership development
Move between courts to observe all games, position centrally during whole-group discussions
Monitor rule application, sportsmanship, teamwork, and skill development under pressure
Step in for unsafe play, support struggling referees, mediate disputes, encourage positive behaviour
Model positive sporting behaviour, demonstrate clear referee signals, show enthusiasm for good play from all teams
Large indoor space or playground area with room for 2-3 basketball courts, minimum 30m x 20m
Non-slip surface, clear of obstacles, appropriate for basketball activities
Stop all games immediately, assess injury, provide appropriate first aid, contact emergency services if required
