Moving from one place to another whilst performing dance actions
The height at which movements are performed - high, medium, or low
The route taken through space - straight, curved, or zigzag
A short sequence of movements that can be developed and repeated
Smooth, continuous movement without stops or jerky actions
The beat of the music used to time movements (8 counts = one phrase)
Understanding where pupils are coming from and where they're going
Vocabulary development with movement terms, descriptive language for feedback, creative poem writing for homework task
Counting in 8s and 4s for musical phrasing, understanding spatial concepts of pathways and geometric shapes in floor patterns
Understanding body systems during exercise, forces and momentum in travelling movements, levels relating to gravity and balance
Creative expression through movement, composition and design principles in sequence creation, visual elements of levels and pathways
Spatial awareness and direction, pathways as routes, understanding of space and scale in movement design
Move around perimeter during individual work, central for demonstrations, circulate during partner feedback
Look for creative adaptation of original motif actions, smooth level transitions, spatial awareness during travelling
Step in if students struggling to connect actions, having difficulty with level changes, or showing unsafe spatial awareness
Use your own motif examples throughout, show clear contrasts between static and travelling, emphasise smooth transitions and controlled level changes
Minimum 8m x 8m clear space, preferably hall or large classroom with moveable furniture
