A defensive technique where you move backwards to stay between the attacker and goal, slowing them down without tackling
Following an opponent's movement to deny them space and time on the ball
Slowing down the attacker's progress to give teammates time to get back in position
The way you position your body when defending - balanced, bent knees, on balls of feet
Moving closer to an opponent to reduce the area they have to operate in
Understanding where pupils are coming from and where they're going
Measuring distances for channels and areas, timing activities, counting touches and passes, understanding angles of approach
Forces and motion in backwards movement, friction between feet and ground, gravity affecting balance and stability
Spatial awareness and positioning, understanding direction and movement across areas, mapping defensive zones
Teamwork and collaboration, resilience when under pressure, managing emotions during competitive activities, supporting teammates
Move around outside of activity areas to maintain visibility of all students, position at corners during game activities
Watch for correct defensive body position, controlled backwards movement, and safe spacing between students

Always demonstrate jockeying technique slowly first, then at game speed. Use student helpers to show correct and incorrect techniques for comparison.
Minimum 20m x 30m clear area, ideally outdoor grass surface or indoor sports hall
Check for even surface free from holes, debris, or wet areas that could cause slipping
Stop activity immediately if injury occurs, assess situation, provide appropriate first aid or seek additional support as needed
