This unit introduces Year 3 students to the fundamental skills of football through a progressive journey from individual ball control to collaborative team play. The emphasis is on building confidence with basic techniques whilst developing tactical awareness through questioning and problem-solving. Each lesson builds upon the previous one, creating a solid foundation for future invasion game learning.

Inside Foot Passing and Receiving

How can we use accurate passing and smart positioning to keep possession of the ball as a team?

Key Objectives:

• Pass and receive the ball using the inside of the foot with increasing accuracy and control
• Work collaboratively to maintain possession through accurate passing and movement

Lesson 2

Ball Control and Trapping Skills

Big Question:

How can we control and trap a moving ball to maintain possession and create scoring opportunities?

Key Objectives:

• Control and trap a ball moving along the ground with increasing accuracy
• Move into space to receive the ball and maintain possession

Lesson 3

Passing and Possession

Big Question:

How can we use passing to keep possession and create scoring opportunities?

Key Objectives:

• To use short passes accurately to maintain possession
• To work as a team to move towards goal

Lesson 4

Finding Space to Receive

Big Question:

How can we use space cleverly to help our team keep the ball and create scoring opportunities?

Key Objectives:

• Recognise and move into space to receive the ball effectively
• Send the ball and immediately move into a new space

Outside Foot Control and Dribbling

Big Question:

How can mastering the outside of the foot help us become more creative and unpredictable players?

Key Objectives:

• Control the ball using the outside of the foot and dribble with confidence
• Receive the ball and dribble effectively into space

Cushioning and Team Communication

Big Question:

How can we work together as a team to control the ball and create scoring opportunities?

Key Objectives:

• Use short passes and cushioning techniques to build an attack effectively
• Determine when to run into space to receive the ball from teammates
