This unit systematically introduces Year 3 students to handball through a carefully sequenced progression of individual skills leading to collaborative team play. The emphasis is on developing catching confidence and passing accuracy before introducing movement rules and defensive concepts. Through engaging 'champions' and 'heroes' language, students build technical competence whilst developing tactical awareness for this exciting invasion game.

Lesson 1

- • Perform underarm throws efficiently and accurately to teammates
Lesson 2

How can we choose the most effective pass to help our team keep possession of the ball?
Key Objectives:
- • Continue to develop catching skills securely and safely
- • Perform overarm and two-handed bounce passes accurately

How can we move with the ball quickly and safely while following handball rules?
Key Objectives:
- • To move with the ball successfully using the three-step rule to create passing and shooting opportunities
- • To apply the three-second rule and understand its impact on ball possession
Lesson 4
Big Question:
How can we become defensive heroes who anticipate and intercept passes to protect our goal?
Key Objectives:
- • Use defending positions to attempt to block the ball
- • Force an error from opponents through effective positioning

Big Question:
How can we work together as a team to create gaps in the defence and score goals?
Key Objectives:
- • Use attacking positions to exploit gaps in the defence and attack as a team
- • Use effective passing and movement as a team to create chances to score
