•Used for goals, boundaries, and rounders bases - distribute around activity areas
Alternative: Markers, bean bags, or small hoops for boundaries
One central hoop for bowler position, others for bases in mini rounders
Alternative: Chalk circles or rope circles laid flat
One ball per pair for skills practice, extras for tag game
Alternative: Soft play balls or bean bags for nervous students
For differentiation - easier to track and field for support group
Alternative: Large soft ball or foam ball
Fielding technique where both hands scoop up a rolling ball while moving towards it
Fielding technique using body as a barrier with foot placed behind hands to stop balls
Player whose job is to stop the ball and prevent batters from scoring
Throwing technique with arm coming over the shoulder for power and accuracy
Watching and following the ball's path to position yourself correctly
Understanding where pupils are coming from and where they're going
Measuring distances for fielding positions, counting practice repetitions, calculating scores in mini rounders games, understanding angles of ball trajectory
Forces involved in throwing and ball movement, friction between ball and ground, body mechanics during fielding movements, reaction time and coordination
Directional awareness and spatial positioning, understanding of area and boundaries, mapping movement patterns around bases
Teamwork and cooperation during pair and group work, resilience when learning new skills, leadership during demonstrations and game play
Move constantly between groups during practice, stand at corners during demonstrations for maximum visibility, position near less confident students during game play
Watch for correct foot positioning behind ball, appropriate technique selection for ball trajectory, safe movement and spatial awareness during activities
Step in if students struggling with technique basics, mediate any disputes during mini rounders, provide additional support for students lacking confidence
Always demonstrate at half speed first, then full speed, use student volunteers for peer demonstration, emphasise key teaching points with exaggerated movements
Minimum 30m x 20m outdoor space or large sports hall, clear of obstacles and hazards
Level, dry surface free from holes, debris, or slippery areas that could cause falls
Stop activity immediately with clear signal, assess situation, provide appropriate first aid or seek assistance, ensure other students remain safe and calm
