This unit develops Year 4 students' ability to navigate their environment using compass points and map symbols whilst building essential teamwork and problem-solving skills. Through progressive outdoor challenges, students learn to stay calm under pressure, communicate effectively, and make decisions collaboratively. The unit uniquely combines technical navigation skills with the development of resilience and strategic thinking in authentic outdoor contexts.

- • Explain what a compass is and identify cardinal and intercardinal points
- • Describe how a compass can be used for navigation and orienteering
