This unit develops Year 4 students' confidence and competence in core basketball skills through a carefully scaffolded approach that moves from individual control to competitive team play. The focus is on building technical foundations whilst developing tactical awareness and decision-making under increasing pressure. Through progressive activities, students experience how mastering fundamental skills enables them to participate successfully in authentic game situations.

Lesson 1
Big Question:
How can we use our whole body to control a basketball while moving at different speeds?
Key Objectives:
- • To develop ball control using both hands in static and dynamic situations
- • To demonstrate the Triple Threat position with correct body positioning
Lesson 2
Big Question:
How can we maintain ball control while being aware of our environment and making quick decisions?
Key Objectives:
- • To develop dribbling skills whilst maintaining control and awareness of surroundings
- • To understand and apply basketball terminology including double dribble, travelling, and triple threat
Lesson 3
Big Question:
How can we use different types of passes to keep possession and create scoring opportunities in basketball?
Key Objectives:
- • I can pass the ball using good techniques including chest pass and bounce pass
- • I can protect the ball while dribbling and communicate effectively
Lesson 4
Big Question:
How can we maintain possession of the ball when opponents are trying to take it away from us?
Key Objectives:
- • To pass the ball accurately on the move using different techniques
- • To maintain possession through quick passing and movement
Lesson 5
Big Question:
How can we use the BEEF technique to become more accurate shooters and work as a team to create scoring opportunities?
Key Objectives:
- • To develop accurate shooting technique using the BEEF method (Balance, Elbow, Eye line, Follow through)
- • To understand when and where to shoot for maximum scoring opportunities

How can we apply our basketball skills in competitive situations whilst demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and teamwork?
Key Objectives:
- • To apply dribbling, passing and shooting skills effectively in competitive basketball games
- • To demonstrate self-motivation, physical confidence and active engagement in competitive situations
