•Check all sticks for damage, ensure appropriate length for students
Alternative: Use shorter sticks for smaller students or unihoc sticks if available
Softer balls reduce injury risk and are easier to control
Alternative: Foam balls for indoor use, or appropriate hockey balls for outdoor
Use different colours for different activities - blue and red for directional tasks
Alternative: Markers, spots, or other visible markers
The flat side of the hockey stick that is used to contact the ball
Moving the ball forward whilst maintaining control using the hockey stick
Only the flat side of the hockey stick may be used to play the ball
A method of restarting play where two players face each other and tap sticks before playing
Keeping the ball close and managing its movement with precision
Understanding where pupils are coming from and where they're going
Understanding clockwise and anticlockwise directions, measuring distances for relay races, counting touches and successful passes
Forces and motion - how the stick applies force to move the ball, friction between ball and ground affecting control
Directional awareness using compass points (North, East, South, West), spatial navigation and map-reading skills
Teamwork and cooperation in partner activities, resilience when learning new skills, respect for equipment and others' safety
Move around perimeter of activity area to maintain visual contact with all students, positioning near areas of highest activity
Primary focus on stick safety and height, secondary focus on ball control development and spatial awareness
Intervene immediately for stick safety violations, provide technique feedback during natural breaks in activity
Always demonstrate from position where all students can see clearly, use exaggerated movements to show correct technique, involve students in demonstrations when appropriate
Minimum 30m x 20m outdoor area or large gymnasium with clear boundaries
Dry, level surface free from holes, debris, or other hazards that could cause trips or falls
Stop activity immediately if incident occurs, assess situation, provide appropriate first aid if trained, seek additional support if needed
