This unit develops Year 4 students' fundamental hockey techniques through a carefully structured progression that builds from individual ball control to collaborative team play. The emphasis is on developing both technical proficiency and tactical understanding, with each lesson introducing a new skill whilst reinforcing previously learned techniques in game contexts. Through this approach, students gain confidence with stick handling while developing their understanding of how individual skills contribute to effective team performance.

Lesson 1

Lesson 2

How can I use the straight dribble to maintain possession and create scoring opportunities?

- • Control the ball when moving around players unchallenged using the straight dribble technique
- • Move into space at speed to receive and send the ball effectively

How can mastering reverse stick technique give us more control and options when the ball is on the far side of our body?
Key Objectives:
- • Keep possession of the ball in small groups using reverse stick control when the ball is on the far side of the body
- • Use the reverse stick technique to stop and control a ball effectively

How can we use power and accuracy together to make our hockey passes more effective over longer distances?

- • To develop the slap pass technique with increased power and accuracy
- • To apply slap passing skills in competitive game situations

How can we use turning skills to create space and maintain possession in hockey?
