This unit introduces Year 4 students to the fundamental skills and tactical understanding needed for netball, progressing from individual ball skills through to team-based gameplay. The focus is on building technical competence alongside tactical awareness, helping students understand how individual skills contribute to team success. Through carefully structured progression, students develop both offensive and defensive capabilities whilst learning the unique rules and positional structure that define netball.

Lesson 1
Big Question:
How does protecting the ball in netball help us maintain possession and create scoring opportunities?
Key Objectives:
- • To catch the ball cleanly and bring it to the chest for protection
- • To apply ball protection skills in competitive game situations
Lesson 2

How can we work as a team to create and convert shooting opportunities in netball?
Key Objectives:
- • Develop basic shooting technique using correct body position and ball release
- • Apply positional understanding in attacking team play
Lesson 3

How can we use the court thirds effectively to build a strong attacking play towards the goal?
Key Objectives:
- • To understand and define the roles of Goal Attack and Centre in building attacking play
- • To demonstrate effective passing and movement within appropriate court thirds

How can we use marking and positioning to prevent the opposing team from scoring?
Key Objectives:
- • To apply one-to-one marking effectively in small-sided and full games
- • To understand the importance of communication and positioning in defence
