This unit introduces Year 2 students to fundamental athletic movements through progressive skill development that emphasises both physical competence and sporting character. The focus is on building confidence with basic athletic actions - reacting, jumping, and throwing - whilst developing body awareness and control in a supportive environment. Through carefully sequenced activities, students discover how their bodies can move powerfully and purposefully whilst learning to respect equipment, space, and each other.

Lesson 1
Big Question:
How can we train our bodies to react quickly and move with control in different directions?
Key Objectives:
- • Develop quick reaction times through multi-directional movement challenges
- • Demonstrate agility, balance and coordination in various athletic activities
Lesson 2
Big Question:
How can we use our whole body to jump further and land safely?
Key Objectives:
- • Develop jumping techniques using one foot to two feet landing
- • Coordinate running with jumping movements
Lesson 3
Big Question:
How can we use our whole body to jump higher, further, and with better control?
Key Objectives:
- • Develop different jumping techniques including two-foot jumps, hops, and leaps
- • Understand how arm movement and leg bend contribute to jumping performance

How can we use our bodies like powerful springs to jump further and with more control?
Key Objectives:
- • To demonstrate competent jumping using a variety of techniques and styles
- • To integrate a controlled run-up approach to enhance jumping distance

How can we use our whole body to throw further and keep everyone safe while doing it?
Key Objectives:
- • Develop overarm throwing technique with correct body positioning
- • Demonstrate safe throwing practices and spatial awareness
