Changing plan shows you the exact amount first, and downgrades wait until your renewal date so you keep what you have paid for.
Changing plan should never mean confirming first and finding out the cost afterwards, particularly for a budget holder who needs the number before committing to it.
When you change plan you see the exact amount that will be charged, worked out from where you are in your current billing period and what you have already paid for. The figure on the confirmation screen is the figure that will be taken.
Moving to a smaller plan does not take effect the moment you click. You keep the plan you have paid for until the end of the period you paid for, and the smaller plan starts at your renewal date. You are never left having paid for something you have already lost access to.
